Producing γ-Linolenic Acid (GLA) by fermentation with waste water of starch production
1. Introduction
The waster water of starch production which is rich in BOD would give rise to serious environmental pollution and resource waste provided discharged directly. By a lot of researches, we obtained a strain which can produce great amount of GLA by using potato starch and sweet potato starch waste water as raw material. We have obtained the optimal fermentation control process by metabolic control.
2. Technology
Oil yield: 8g/L
GLA content≥15%
Fermenter Volume: 5000L pilot scale
3. Use
γ-linolenic acid (GLA) is an essential fatty acid (EFA) in the omega-6 family that is found primarily in plant-based oils. EFAs are essential to human health but cannot be made in the body. For this reason, they must be obtained from food. EFAs are needed for normal brain function, growth and development, bone health, stimulation of skin and hair growth, regulation of metabolism, and maintenance of reproductive processes. The technology can be applied in food and fermentation industry in which GLA can be directly used as health product or energized additives.
